"Duncan's Ridge" 10/26/12
With nothing to do, I decided to log a repeat ascent of tiny "Duncan's Ridge" just outside of Fort Collins. Several inches of new snow on the ground and a general unpreparedness left me without a better option, and I didn't particularly remember much about the tiny climb despite having climbed it about a year ago. I drove to the small trailhead just east of the ridge and picked up the well established trail across the road. I was happy to see the trail completely clear of snow. At the summit, a few things have changed since last time. For one, the expensive houses to the north are no longer under construction and appear to be inhabited, also the popular top-rope area on the rimrock just west of the true summit seems to have much heavier use. I received an email from CSU earlier in the year advertizing a free 'learn to rock climb' activity at their 'super secret location', at which I am convinced this area is what they're referring to. Super secret indeed, I'm not a rock climber and I've known about the top-roping at "Duncan's Ridge" for years. On the way back down, I saw a few mule deer and as I left a couple of dog walkers appeared to be heading up the trail.
